The senate voted 51 to 49 in favor of moving on with the impeachment inquiry and not allowing new witnesses. Two Republicans voted with all 47 Democrats in order to allow new witnesses to testify, but this was still two votes shy of getting the motion passed. This will set up a Trump impeachment acquittal sometime next week, where a final vote will almost certainly end in the President escaping removal from office.

Mohammed Tawfiq Allawi was named Iraq's new PM, after months of anti-government protests. The last Prime Minister was forced to resign in November due to said protests. Yet thousands continue to protest the new PM as well, even as he vows to eliminate corruption.

The Wuhan virus has been labeled a global emergency by the World Health Organization, as the death toll approaches 400 and cases have been reported in 25 countries. Although the death rate is somewhere between 2-5%, experts believe that it could be labeled a global pandemic, as statistical models predict that the real number of those infected is in the hundreds of thousands.
