Iran Strikes US Bases

Two US bases in Iraq were struck by Iranian missiles (no casualties reported) on Tuesday in retaliation to the the assassination of a top Iranian general. On Wednesday, President Trump stated that the US would not respond aggressively in hopes of curbing an all out war with Iran. Days before the attacks on US bases, Iran had withdrawn from the Iran Nuclear deal, but stated that it was open to negotiations in the future.

A Ukrainian passenger plane carrying 176 people crashed in Iran, killing everybody onboard just hours after the bombing of two US military bases. Investigations have been opened into the cause of the crash; some claim it was merely a technical problem, but due to its proximity to the attacks that took place in Iraq, investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the plane was accidentally shot down.

Carlos Ghosn, the former CEO of Nissan managed to escape to Lebanon from Japan while he awaited trial. Ghosn was accused of financial misconduct by Japanese prosecutors and in return claimed that both the Japanese government and Nissan worked together to remove him from his CEO position.

A 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit Puerto Rico, causing two-thirds of the country to lose electricity. Wanda Vazquez, the Puerto Rican governor, declared a state of emergency and called in the National Guard. This earthquake comes two and a half years after hurricane Maria devastated the US territory.
