Libya Closes All Oil Fields

Libya

All of Libya's oil fields were shut down on Saturday, as the battle for the country's capital continues. Commander Khalifa Haftar who emerged after the fall of Gaddafi in 2011, has the backing of Egypt, the UAE and Russia, and stated that Libya would be shutting down all its oil fields. Haftar is fighting the Libyan government, who has the support of NATO and Turkish troops.

China

Chinese officials confirmed 139 new cases of a coronavirus strain, prompting fears of an epidemic like the one seen in 2002. Although not much is known about the virus, the World Health Organization has confirmed that the same virus has been found in Thailand and Japan (probably originating form Chinese tourists). Countermeasures have already been put in place in China and in Airports around the world to limit the spread of the virus.

Yemen

At least 60 Saudi-led coalition military personnel were killed by Houthi missiles on Saturday. The Houthi rebels, who are backed by Iran, have been fighting a Saudi-Arabian coalition (includes US, UK, UAE, Sudan) since 2015, turning Yemen into a battle ground. At least 100,000 people have died since the start of the Yemeni Civil War almost 5 years ago.

Guatemala

Guatemala's new President Alejandro Giammattei broke off all diplomatic relations with Venezuela two days after his inauguration. That same week, Giammattei supported the idea that the Mexican government break up the migrant caravan (of about 3,500 people from Honduras) as it crossed through Guatemala and Mexico on its way to the United States.
