Violent Iran Protests

At least 300 people have been killed in Iran as protestors call for the downfall of President Rouhani's government. Protests began two weeks ago as the government raised the price of gasoline by 50%, and have only increased in violence. This comes days after the government ended the internet blackout that affected all Iranians. This adds to the instability in the are as protests continue in IraqLebanon, and Algeria.

The FBI stated that "any app developed in Russia could be a counterintelligence threat,"after an investigation into Russia's FaceApp. The app, which went viral worldwide in early 2019, can take a picture of a persons' face and make it look 40 years older. Even though the FBI's investigation stated that the app was not providing information to the Russian government, they concluded that apps created in Russia could be used to undermine the US government.

French and Canadian Presidents clashed with the US President at a NATO meeting this week. After saying that NATO was suffering due to the inability of the US to lead, the French President received harsh criticism from President Trump. That same day, audio footage was leaked showing the Canadian President making fun of the US President while speaking to other world leaders. This makes people fear that cracks are beginning to surface in the 70-year old NATO alliance.
