There are now 5 million cases and 330k fatalities worldwide. The top 4 countries (by total number of known cases) are the United States (1.55 million), Russia (310k), Brazil (300k), and the UK (250k).

Japan/Germany

The third and fourth largest economies in the world have fallen into a recession. Japan's economy shrunk by 6.4% during the last quarter of 2019 and by 3.4% during the first quarter of 2020. Germany's economy shrunk by 0.1% in Q4 of 2019 and by 2.2% in Q1 of 2020. Due to the pandemic, a global recession which will wipe out an estimated $8 trillion dollars.

Mexico

The Mexican President ordered an investigation into his predecessor, Enrique Peña Nieto. The investigation will focus on $640 million dollars worth of contracts that Peña Nieto awarded over his presidency to a company owned by his family and to a US healthcare company.

United States

The US announced that it would keep its Canadian and Mexican land borders closed until June 22nd. This comes as the country approaches 100k deaths and 1.6 million infections. On Monday, US biotech company Moderna stated that their Covid-19 vaccine showed promise, sending US stocks up 3% in what is the biggest rise in 10 weeks.
