Pandemic

The number of confirmed cases is now over 6 million, with 370k dead. The United States continues to lead the world by number of known cases (1.8 million), followed by Brazil (470k) and Russia (400k). The mortality of the virus (which is incredibly difficult to track since it is based on number of tests done which differ greatly by country) seems to be somewhere between o.5% and 2%.

Hong Kong

Outraged Hong Kongers took to the streets again as Beijing Hong Kong is set to adopt a law which would criminalize abuse of the Chinese national anthem. This step would essentially render Hong Kong a part of mainland China repeal the idea of "one country two systems." The vote on this bill is expected sometime in early June.

United States

The death of George Floyd, a black citizen who was killed by police in Minneapolis, Minnesota have prompted a nationwide movement for justice. Over the last couple of days thousands of protestors have taken to the streets and demanded justice. Although a majority of protests have been peaceful, some have resulted in burning and vandalizing. Multiple cities across the nation have placed a curfew and deployed the National Guard in order to calm the situation.
